This calculator provides estimates based on currently enacted tariff rates as of March 2026. Actual duties depend on formal HS code classification, country of origin determination, applicable exclusions, trade agreements, and customs interpretation. The Section 122 surcharge expires July 24, 2026 unless extended. This tool does not constitute legal, trade, or customs advice. Always confirm with a licensed customs broker. Understanding US Import Tariffs in 2026
The US tariff landscape changed dramatically in February 2026. The Supreme Court struck down IEEPA-based tariffs on February 20, and within hours the administration imposed a new 10% global surcharge under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. Combined with existing Section 301 duties on Chinese goods and Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum, importers now face a complex stack of overlapping tariffs.
This calculator shows you the total effective duty rate on your product โ not just one layer, but all of them combined.
How US Tariffs Stack in 2026
Multiple tariff layers apply simultaneously to most imports. For example, a leather handbag (HTS 4202.21) imported from China:
- MFN base duty8%
- + Section 301 (List 3)7.5%
- + Section 122 surcharge10%
- Total25.5%
Before 2025, that same handbag paid just 8%.
The stacking formula: Total = MFN + Section 301 (if China) + Section 122 OR Section 232. Section 232 and Section 122 do not stack โ Section 232 takes priority for steel, aluminum, and auto products.
Section 122 Global Surcharge
A 10% ad valorem surcharge on most imports from all countries, effective February 24, 2026. It expires July 24, 2026 (150 days) unless Congress extends it. Products already subject to Section 232 tariffs and USMCA-qualifying goods are exempt. While the President announced 15% on social media on February 22, no formal proclamation was issued at that rate โ CBP is collecting at 10%.
Section 301 China Tariffs
Four lists of tariffs covering approximately $370 billion in annual trade with China. Rates range from 7.5% on general consumer goods to 100% on electric vehicles and medical gloves. These tariffs survived the SCOTUS ruling because they operate under different legal authority than the struck-down IEEPA tariffs.
Section 232 Tariffs
25% tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles/auto parts from all countries. Some USMCA exceptions apply. When Section 232 applies to a product, Section 122 does not โ they are mutually exclusive.
De Minimis Threshold Eliminated
This is the change that affects the most people. Previously, any import under $800 entered the US duty-free. That exemption is gone for all countries. Every single commercial import now faces duties regardless of value.
For ecommerce sellers using AliExpress, Temu, Shein, or any dropshipping model โ this fundamentally changes your cost structure. Use the calculator above to see exactly how much your orders now cost.
Impact on Ecommerce Sellers
Whether you sell on Shopify, Amazon FBA, or run a dropshipping business, the 2026 tariff changes directly impact your margins:
- Factor tariffs into product pricing โ your cost of goods has increased by 15-30% for Chinese-origin products.
- Use DDP shipping โ Delivered Duty Paid shipping prevents surprise charges for your customers at delivery.
- Consider sourcing alternatives โ Vietnam, India, and other origins avoid Section 301 duties, reducing total tariffs by 7.5-100%.
- Use a landed cost calculator to model true margins with all duties, shipping, and fees included.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the total tariff on imports from China in 2026?
It depends on the product. Chinese goods face MFN base rate + Section 301 (7.5% to 100%) + Section 122 (10%). For most consumer goods, the total effective rate is 20-30%. Use the calculator above for your specific product.
Is the $800 de minimis exemption still available?
No. The de minimis duty-free threshold has been eliminated for all countries. Every commercial import into the US now faces duties regardless of value.
What happens when Section 122 expires in July 2026?
If Congress does not extend it, the 10% surcharge will drop off. However, the administration has initiated Section 301 investigations that could result in new country-specific tariffs. MFN rates, Section 301, and Section 232 tariffs will remain.
Do tariffs apply to goods from Canada and Mexico?
Goods qualifying under USMCA enter duty-free and are exempt from Section 122. Goods that don't qualify for USMCA treatment face the standard MFN rate + Section 122.
Are IEEPA tariff refunds available?
The CIT has ordered CBP to develop a refund process for IEEPA tariffs paid between April 2025 and February 2026. Consult your customs broker about filing refund claims.
How do I calculate the total cost of importing a product?
Use this tariff impact calculator to find your total duty rate, then use our Landed Cost Calculator to add shipping, insurance, and other fees for the complete import cost.
What tariffs does an AliExpress/Temu/Shein order face?
Chinese-origin goods face MFN base rate + Section 301 (typically 7.5-15% for consumer products) + Section 122 (10%). A $50 AliExpress order that was previously duty-free now faces approximately $10-15 in duties. Try the โAliExpress $50โ preset above.
Can I avoid these tariffs?
Legally, you can source from non-China origins to avoid Section 301, use FTAs like USMCA for Canada/Mexico goods, or claim applicable exclusions. Consult a customs broker for product-specific strategies.
